Meet Our Esteemed Speakers

We are delighted to announce the distinguished speakers who will be joining us at the event.

Patrick Cavanagh, Senior Economist at Fastmarkets, brings extensive expertise in global pulp market forecasting and analysis. Since joining RISI in 2015, Patrick has become a trusted voice in the industry, authoring key publications such as the World Pulp Monthly and the Pulp 15-Year Forecast. His insights, shaped by years of modelling and presenting on forest product commodity markets, make him a respected and frequent presence at international pulp and paper conferences.

Joining him is Sami Alsafran, a seasoned expert with over 30 years of experience across the paper, packaging, and waste management sectors. Sami's leadership in strategic planning, business development, and sustainability has driven significant revenue growth and organizational transformation. A champion of innovation and social responsibility, Sami continues to push the boundaries of sustainable practices, earning recognition as a forward-thinking leader propelling progress in the industry.

We are also pleased to introduce Nick Mockett as our third speaker at the event. Nick is a corporate financier who has served the global paper and packaging industry exclusively for over 25 years. His experience includes leveraged buy-outs, mergers, acquisitions, disposals, and public company takeovers. Nick has worked on dozens of deals worth billions of euros. He has been active across the supply chain, from manufacturing to distribution, in both consumer and industrial packaging. A regular speaker at paper and packaging conferences worldwide, Nick also contributes frequently to leading industry publications.

Joining this lineup is Alexander Hellmers, CEO of Alexander Global Logistics and a logistics leader known for his work in the pulp and paper sector. With deep expertise in multimodal transport, warehousing, and inventory management, Alexander has developed innovative, sustainable logistics solutions connecting global markets. One of his most notable achievements is the creation of a 20,000-square-meter pulp and paper warehouse at Khalifa Port in Abu Dhabi, built in partnership with AD Ports Group. His approach emphasizes global thinking paired with local execution—anchored in strong collaboration and a commitment to efficiency.

We are also delighted to welcome Philip Damas from the Drewry Group. Philip Damas is in charge of Drewry Supply Chain Advisors, the logistics practice of the Drewry Group, and is a managing director of Drewry Shipping Consultants. Prior to joining Drewry in 2005, Philip worked for CMA CGM and the container shipping consortium Cobra in various management and financial control roles until 1990. He then spent the 1990s analysing the logistics policies of exporters/importers and of logistics service providers when working with American Shipper and Containerisation International. Philip then became a founding director of the shipping research and database company ComPairData. At Drewry, Philip has advised exporters, importers, lenders and ports on logistics, freight rates, seafreight procurement, supply chains and markets. He has presented papers at conferences in Asia, the United States and Europe. Philip holds an MBA from the University of Bradford Management Centre and a B. Sc. and M.Sc.
